Don Mills, a suburban community in the North York area of Toronto, is famous for being the first planned community in Canada and for being approximately 20-30 minutes to anywhere in Toronto. Don Mills, until recently, was home to the Ontario Science Centre, is home to several of the largest parks in Toronto including Edward's Gardens and Sunnybrook park and caters to one of the most affluent streets in Toronto, the Bridle Path.
Pickering is the closest city to the east of Toronto and the western most municipality within Durham Region. Long equated for being home to the nuclear power plant, Pickering has become so much more. More recently the Pickering Casino Resort and the soon to come shopping and entertainment complex that will join the casino lands will transform Pickering into a destination for the entire region and perhaps change what Pickering is best known for.
The Town of Ajax with its huge lakeside park and walking trails is known as Ajax by the Lake. Ajax has a rich history of helping Canada in World War II. A monument pays tribute to its war heroes right by the lake and wartime homes remain to this day in the centre of town. Recently several employers have opened office and warehousing facilities including Amazon. Ajax also has a number of shopping areas which draws consumers from all over the region.
The town of Whitby has grown tremendously over the years not only within its core, but to the north, in the Village of Brooklin. Brooklin has changed the face of Whitby over the last 20 years. Once separated by rural areas, soon the core town of Whitby and the satellite village of Brooklin will be joined together as one as Highways 407 and 412 together with urban sprawl removes that rural gap that once existed between these communities.
The City of Oshawa, best known for its historical ties to General Motors and the automotive industry, has gone through enormous changes over the last decade. The bulk of homes in Oshawa just 10-15 years ago were older homes primarily south of Taunton down to the lake. But massive newer development has taken place in the north of Oshawa which has changed the face of the city. Consumers now have a choice between older and newer areas of Oshawa
The Regional Municipality of Clarington, while largely rural, includes the populated communities of Courtice, Darlington, Bowmanville and Newcastle. Urban sprawl over the years has driven considerable growth in these communities as younger home buyers looked further out for greater affordability. Increased mobility is coming to the region as well with Go Transit train expansion, highways 407 out to Orono and 418 connecting to highway 401.
While Vaughan runs the ads, the City above Toronto, Markham is also the City above Toronto. Markham is in such high demand for Greater Toronto home buyers that average prices in Markham tend to be among the highest in the Golden Horseshoe. Markham has become a prime "live, work and play" municipality with several great communities, the Canadian headquarters of several large corporations and plenty of entertainment and amenities.
Guildwood is a village and community in Eastern Toronto that bounds the lake. An area which has a lot of history, numerous parks and lakefront walking trails. A desirable neighbourhood with access to several forms of transportation including TTC, Go Transit and Via Rail. With proximity to U of T's Scarborough campus and some of the Pan-Am Games facilities there is broad appeal and demand for properties in this area of Toronto.
